I’ve just finished watching the live stream of Apple unveiling its new tablet device: iPad, and here are some of my initial thoughts:
- As Devon pointed out, this is basically a blown up iPod Touch. It doesn’t seem like there is an upgrade in the operating system… no multitasking.
- For people of Taiwan/Hong Kong: No Traditional Chinese support at launch, just the Simplified support.
- For eBook readers: iPad uses a backlit LED. Even though the screen size is huge at 9.7”, is it going to replace your lovely E-ink technology machines? Some people are claiming that Kindle is dead when iPad officially come out, but really, how comfortable can you be when you stare at a bright screen for an extensive period of time? I’ve used my iPhone to read for a little while, but it was nowhere near the comfort level of my Sony Reader SR-505.
- For netbook users: at $499 US, this is a very competitive product for people who are thinking about getting a new netbook. The iPad does what people look for in a netbook: portable web-browsing, word-processing (via the iPad version of iWork), movies-watching, music-listening, and eBook-reading. No camera though, front or back. The iPad would’ve been great with Skype. (EDIT: No microphones, either!)
- A lot of people are saying you got to hold one to feel the “magic” people are proclaiming. I actually think that’s true. I didn’t want an iPhone until I see people using it and consequently trying it out. People at Macbreak Weekly put it like this: Next time when people see a douchebag holding it at a Starbucks, they’ll want one.
- The iPad keyboard dock is a brilliant idea: awesomely practical. The iPad case is also nice in that it not only is a cover, it can act as a stand in 2 angles. Very slick.

今天拖著病厭厭懶洋洋的身軀，要開車到Don Mills的CAA去辦國際駕照…
結果剛上了高速公路，突然驚覺：「我暑假的時候不是就辦過了嗎嗎嗎嗎嗎？？？？」
國際駕照的期限一年所以我到明年暑假之前都還有效…真是太笨了。

I taught at an after-school English school for a few months this summer when I was in Taiwan. And yesterday, this came into my mailbox:
Dear Teacher,
How’s everything for Canada?I miss you a little bit.And We still play UNO.This letter spent me a lot of time.I think we can meet you again.

A few years ago, my parents took their companies’ employees on an appreciation trip to Korea. The trip turned out to be a blast, and everyone was having fun shopping and sightseeing. They hired a Taiwanese-Korean tour guide, and he did his best to get everyone various discounts and even turned every meal into all-you-can-eat.
During their last day of the trip, the tour guide took them to a local specialty/ gift shop. It was a shop that sells all kinds of local food products, and everyone, all 50 of them, was carrying those plastic shopping baskets or even huge paper boxes to shop as if it was an out-of-business sale. My parents, been through at least 5 stores like this one during the previous days of the tour, decided that they weren’t planning to buy anything so they didn’t have a basket with them. They were however open to the idea that this shop might have some products that could potentially intrigue them, so they walked around and tried out the different food samples placed beside each sections.
A store clerk, probably noticed the absence of a basket in my parents’ hands and thought they were just cruising around getting free food, walked up and asked “Excuse me, please stop sampling our products now.”

透過我媽媽 (Miumiu) 自己的部落格，她認識了很多同樣是博美狗主人的網友們…而這些博美爸媽們在這幾天舉辦了一個聚會！
愛博美如癡的我媽當然對於這樣一個活動非常興奮，但很不巧的她剛好這幾天都在上海參加一個研習營之類的課程，所以沒辦法參加…不死心的她於是派了剛好在台灣過暑假的我帶著小寶寶來代母出征！
這次的聚會因為是台灣北中南的狗友都會參加，所以地點就選在中間點台中的一個寵物餐廳「柏林寵物農場」舉行。

At the Starbucks on Queen Street West, I was in line for an “old school” London Fog, and an old Quebecois couple was in front me. When the sexy, tall, handsome barista guy with long hair and scruffy chin got to them, they timidly asked for a piece of pastry in French-accented English. The sexy, tall, handsome barista guy with long hair and scruffy chin immediately responded with fluent French. The couple, first a little bit surprised, started ordering other drinks in French as well. The sexy, tall, handsome barista guy with long hair and scrufft chin even made suggestions and explained how those drinks are made. All in beautiful French. French is so beautiful and sexy. It was so enjoyable to observe I almost didn’t realize the other barsita at the cash was waiting for my order.

Jasper and I was chatting on IM and regarding how I’m busy at doing nothing he said:
“I envy your busyness“
The word seemed odd to both of us. And immediately afterwards, he started to wonder whether it’s busyness or simply business. Jasper then decided to look it up on online dictionary and found busyness in the derivatives section of they entry busy.
In everyday English we’re used to adding the suffix -ness to an adjective to convey “the state of being (adjective)”. However, an adjective spelled with a “y” at the end and end with open coda /i:/ we replace the “y” with an “i”. For example, silly or tidy become silliness and tidiness, respectively. All is well, until you factor in how business, coming from busy, is strongly associated with other meanings more common than simply describing the state of being busy.

今天下午悠哉的出門晃晃，經過HMV就一口氣買了五張CD回來…沒辦法，一堆兩張$20或兩張$25的貼紙實在是太誘人了！
我想很多人看到這裡一定會問：現在誰的音樂不是網路上下載的…哪有人還在買吸滴？？
